Tips for Eco-friendly living

An Eco-friendly lifestyle means we build a brighter future for all. So, what can we do in our daily lives to create new Eco-friendly habits?

The wonderful Sir David Attenborough’s famously said, “Surely it is our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth.” So how to we make that happen?

Eco-Friendly Habbits

Taking the time to understand how to live an Eco-friendly existence can be daunting. No longer are we focused on just a plastic free existence, reducing food waste and paper; we now need to think bigger. We need to change every aspect of our day to day lives.

Below are a few tips to help you along the way.

1. Land and wildlife

Just think of the ‘Good Life’ with Margo and Tom. Now we’re not suggesting you need to be completely self-sufficient but there are huge advantages to heading that way. There is nothing more satisfying that eating your own produce you grew from seed. If your luckily enough to have the space, then why not create your own veggie patch. Even if you only have a small balcony, growing tomatoes can work.

2. Water

Have you looked at your water wastage? You will be amazed at just how much water you use unnecessarily. Did you know that a running tap wastes approximately six litres a minute which is 24 litres a day! So don’t leave the tap running when brushing your teeth, take shorter showers and wait until your dishwasher or washing machine is full before using. 3. Supporting Local

One of my favourites and something we should all work hard to do. This does not just mean buying from your local farm shop whenever possible. It can be enjoying local events, attractions and using local services. Leave reviews to encourage others and show your support. Investing and collaborate with your local community will make it stronger and allow it to grow and mature. Together you can build a community to be proud of.

4. Sustainable Materials

The harvesting of sustainable materials means there is far less waste compared to materials such as plastic. This means there will be far less landfill waste, less energy consumption, and a lesser impact on our environment. Using sustainable materials such as bamboo; wood; hemp; wool; linen; straw; clay, stone, sand; beeswax; and coconut have a far more positive effect on our planet.

5. Sustainable transport

The best way to be more sustainable is walk or cycle! The benefits are not just to the environment, it is a healthier way to live and its great for your mental health. If that’s not an option, take public transport or car share. And if possible change your petrol or diesel vehicles to electric.

6. Zero waste

Reduce, reuse, recycle! It might be difficult to be completely waste free, but we can get very close to hitting this goal. If we think before we buy and only purchase what we need we will not create waste. Sometimes its easy to get carried away with offers, buy one get one free, but do we need the free one?

Reuse, Reduce, Recycle
Go Eco-friendly

Today we plan for a brighter future and to do this we should all, reduce, reuse, and recycle wherever possible. Cook from scratch and eat more plants. Switch to Eco friendly products and use reusables instead of disposables. Try to do less laundry and air dry not tumble dry. Say goodbye to paper products and go digital. And finally shop local and support your community.
