Is going paperless, going green?

Going paperless is only one step towards supporting our efforts for a greener sociality. Paper has its place, but we all need to look at where we can reduce it. On the bottom of emails, you often see a message, “Please consider the environment before you print,” and this message, like many others, is a gentle reminder to try and reduce your paper usage.

There is no doubt that going paperless is a greener option, but it must be balanced by adopting a green outlook to many other parts of our lives. Such as greener travel, more sustainable shopping, recycling, or reusing items. Going paperless may not be an option for you, so this is why you need to ensure the paper you use, is recycled when purchase and disposed of and is used wisely. This is what we call being paper light.

Paperless Recycling
Promoting Paperless

Promoting paperless for us, is to promote a paperless way of communicating data for businesses. On average each worker in the UK will use 10,000 sheets of paper a year. There are many businesses however that do not need to use paper, yet they continue, as the move to digital can be considered too expensive, dauting or felt it will be too disruptive to their business.

A lot of businesses will not be able to recycle a significant percentage of their paperwork such as legal documents, risk assessments, reports, or inspections, because these will need to be kept. These are the documents we promote to go paperless. And while you are going digital with some data capture, why not go digital for it all.

Paperless Advantages

There are so many advantages to adopting a paperless workflow for your business. Being more eco-friendly is certainly one and additional benefits are savings on time, efficiency, and your bottom line. Digital data capture is simple and easy to implement due to advances in technology. Even more, you may not need to purchase any additional devices as most digital solutions can be operated from your smart phone.

Going paperless wherever possible will reduce the amount of paper waste, which will have a positive impact on landfill. Did you know that in the UK we bury the equivalent of 103,448 double decker buses full of paper each year. Not all this paper needed to be used! If you must use paper, use recycled and recycle it. Recycled paper uses 73% less air pollution than if it was made from raw materials, and every tonne of recycled paper saves 17 trees!
